While shows like Yellowstone have sparked interest in the modern West, sometimes a good, old-fashioned horse opera is in order. Flintis one such motion picture. Collider is thrilled to bring you an exclusive first look at the official trailer for this long-anticipated feature, headlined by television heartthrob Josh Holloway — it’s about to transport us right back to the Old West. Years after Holloway’s sudden and shocking death on Yellowstone, the star returns to Paradise Valley, Montana, for this action-packed period drama that will have you itching for the next big-screen Western.
Flint is slated to premiere at the Regal Green Hills in Nashville on September 25 in conjunction with the Nashville Film Festival. This Trailer offers only a small taste of the Western thrills to come. Not only is Holloway’s titular gun-toting hero front and center, but so is the sweeping landscape of Montana. Whether you love Yellowstone and its contemporaries or you’re anxious to see Holloway sporting a cowboy hat, Flint — written and directed by Ryan Whitaker (Surprised By Oxford, The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin) based on the popular Western novel of the same name by Louis L’Amour — is the real deal that evokes the feeling of more traditional horse operas if made in the 21st century.
As the first L’Amour adaptation in decades, fans of the book will be taken by this innovative take on the iconic source material that goes a little beyond the pages themselves. Although Flint is one of Louis L’Amours most popular (not to mention best) novels, there are plenty of folks out there who likely have no clue as to what this Western tale is about. While we don’t want to spoil it for you — though, the book has been in print for over 65 years — we have some further insight into what this long-anticipated film adaptation has to offer.
The official synopsis for Flint reads as follows:
“James Kettleman returns to the Montana frontier he once fled, taking the name of the notorious killer who raised him. In the crosshairs of a range war involving a female rancher, he is forced to decide what his ultimate legacy will be.”
Flint stars Josh Holloway (Lost) as Jim Flint/James Kettleman, Sarah Gadon (11.22.63) as Nancy Kennigan, Dianna Agron (Glee) as Lottie Kettleman, Max Martini (13 Hours) as Porter Baldwin, Mike Vogel (Childhood’s End) as Buck Dunn, Forrie J. Smith (Yellowstone) as Ed Glynn, Charles Esten (Nashville) as Flint, Bailey Chase (Longmire) as Barnes, Nick Searcy (Justified) as Red Dolan, and Kristoffer Polaha (American Hostage) among others. Both Holloway and Beau L’Amour, the son of author Louis L’Amour, are listed among the films’ producers.
